Situational hitting wins games. This is one of the simplest ways to train it every single MaxBP session.
The Game Situation
Man on second. Zero outs.
Your job is not to do too much. Your job is to move the runner to third.
This drill builds:
- Plate discipline
- Directional contact
- Game-speed decision making
Setup
- Machine: MaxBP
- Distance: 25 feet
- Velocity: High
- Intent: Game-speed swings with situational focus
The Rules
You get 10 situational drives per round.
Everything you do is judged by one question: Did you advance the runner?
Right-Handed Hitters
- Hunt outside pitches
- Drive the ball to the right side
- Take everything else
Left-Handed Hitters
- Hunt inside pitches
- Pull the ball to the right side
- Take everything else
If it doesn’t help the runner, it’s not your pitch.
Why This Works
This drill forces hitters to:
- Slow the game down
- Commit to a plan before the pitch
- Swing with direction, not ego
You are training decision quality, not just bat speed.
MaxBP’s short distance and high velocity simulate reaction time under pressure, making every take and every swing intentional.
Coaching Cues
- Start every round by saying the situation out loud
- Grade rounds on execution, not hits
- Celebrate productive outs
How to Use It
- Plug this drill into every MaxBP session
- Use it early to set the tone or late when you're fatigued
- Rotate hitters quickly to keep intensity high
Bottom Line
Great hitters don’t just hit balls hard. They win situations.
Train the moments that decide games.
Man on second. No outs.
Do your job.
